The year: 1963. Gov.
George Wallace takes office, the post office
introduces ZIP codes, and in November, a nation
loses its youngest president. In a small
Arkansas river town, M.L."Butch" Pike, III is busy
day and night launching a new business that
manufactures plaster lamps, Elite Lamp Company.
Soon furniture stores and mass
merchants across the United States were buying the
value-priced plaster lamps in giant volumes. Elite Lamp was on its way.
Fast forward to 1989:
Butch's two sons, John and Jimmy, entered the
business and together, they forged a new direction.
Whereas Elite Lamp sold to big box retailers and
furniture chains, the new division - Vintage
Verandah - would focus exclusively on
independent specialty gift and home decor retailers.
The retailers' response was
immediate. The independent home accent
retailer recognized the value of trend-right,
well-designed product at affordable price points.
And though its sister company was large enough to
supply the biggest retailers in the business, even
the smallest retailer found it easy to work with
Vintage Verandah.
By 2001, sales growth at Vintage
Verandah enabled the company to re-form with Elite.
Now Vintage Verandah was the larger of the two
divisions.
Today, Vintage Verandah
through its employees at our home office in
Arkansas, serve thousands of different specialty
retailers across the United States and Canada.
More than a dozen wholesale showrooms are located in
major market center buildings from coast to coast.
